Bench Life Jersey Thursdays October 11th, 2018

Last week was the first edition of my weekly jersey blog where I gave out a few of the hits from my own collection. This week we’re back with a few jersey submissions from a few dutiful fans (my uncle + Ray and Ballantyne). As this thing grows I’m hoping to expand my search for the best/worst jerseys to a global level but for now I’m a humble yet hungry small fry in the jersey blogging community.
Weekly Jersey Round-Up
Toronto Blue Jays Road Grey Rance Mulliniks
“Top 5 Reasons Rance Mulliniks is the man” according to my Uncle John Taylor:
1. Never wore batting gloves. Even in Exhibition Stadium. Clearly an old time baseball “can do” attitude
2. 59 career pinch hits. 59. **mic drop**
3. Wire rim glasses and mustache make for a fashion statement
4. Part of Frankenstein monster of skinny third basemen platooning with garth Iorg. “Mullinorg” to their friends. Can you imagine having both a Garth and Rance at your service?
5. Single season Blue Jays record for third base fielding percentage.
.975
See the ball, catch the ball, throw the ball. Repeat three times. Sit down, take a load off.
Value Village Kobe Bryant Lakers
Can’t sum it up better than that.
It doesn’t matter how fake a jersey looks. It doesn’t matter how much it may wreak of cigarettes. For $5 a find is a find. When you dive head long into a Value Village trip with the boys it’s all about the thrill of the hunt. For the right price nothing is better than acquiring a knock-off Kobe Bryant (and I’m not talking about the ZO2’s).
Autographed Nathan MacKinnon Colorado Avalanche Home, Vintage Yvan Cournoyer Montreal Canadiens, Brendan Shannahan Detroit Red Wings Home
This Murderer’s row of autographed jerseys is courtesy of Bench Life teammate Ray Harrison.
On the left wing of this trio we have a 2018 Hart Trophy runner-up and the second-best player from Cole Harbour, Nathan MacKinnon. On the right wing we have a Hall of Famer, Red Wings great and one of the architects of the 2018-19 Toronto Maple Leaf goal factory, Brendan Shannahan. Centring this top line is one of the greats, Yvan “The Roadrunner” Cournoyer. He was the 16th captain in Montreal Canadiens history and in 2017 he was named one of the NHL’s top 100 players of all-time at the league’s 100th anniversary celebration.
