The Jersey Blog Week 10

Really contemplated hanging up the old jersey blogging spurs after getting grilled last week for my ranking abilities/ability to spot an obviously fake jersey. If you want a taste of what I went through, be sure to check out this week’s podcast.

But after some soul searching… The show goes on. I actually appreciate the accountability. While I admit I made a mistake, let’s just move on. If you want in on the blog, be sure to DM pictures of your favourite jersey to one of the Bench Life Social accounts every Wednesday night.

Jersey of the Week Submissions

Fifth Place
Arkansas Razorbacks Basketball Jersey

My brother has tried time and time again to find a #33 in the history of Arkansas Razorbacks basketball. He figures it must be Marshawn Powell who has one the shortest Wikipedia entries I’ve ever seen.

Regardless of player, this is a solid Value Village find and pretty topical amidst a Sweet Sixteen run for the Razorbacks. All aboard the Muss Bus!

Fourth Place
Tim Lincecum San Francisco Giants

Scouts, pitching coaches and pitching mechanics fanatics love a guy with an effortless delivery. I’m the opposite. I’m a huge fan of pitchers with unorthodox, violent deliveries. Lincecum was one of the latter. At 5’11” and 170 pounds, Lincecum used to rear back and pretty much throw his whole body towards the plate to get some zip on his fastball.

He won back-to-back Cy Youngs in 2008 and 2009, and threes World Series with the Giants. His arm burnt out relatively quickly, his career lasting just 10 seasons and his prime was just around four seasons. But from 2008-2011 the guy had a 62-36 record with a 2.81 ERA, reaching 200 innings pitched each season and making an all-star team all four years. Real Jays fans don’t forget that we almost had him for Alex Rios in a one-for-one trade.

The Podium

Bronze Medal Jersey
Marques Townes Loyola Chicago Ramblers

Lost in Loyola’s 2018 Final Four Cinderella run was the play of Marques Townes. Arguably the team’s best player, the casual fan was more enamoured with the team’s big galoof freshman starting at center and their 100 year-old school’s nun. Rewatch though and Townes’ March emergence was everything that the Madness is about.

In 2021 the Ramblers are once again doing the damn thing and find themselves in the Sweet Sixteen. While there’s no Townes this time around, Krutwig is still doing work in the post and that wily fox Sister Jean has once again harnessed the power of God. But Loyola is admittedly a better team on paper this year than they were in 2018, so the only way to out-Cinderella that performance would be to go out and just win it all.

Silver Medal Jersey
Michael Jordan Chicago White Sox Baseball Jersey

The Jordan White Sox jersey is very cool. A stickler might point out that since he never made it above the AA level, the only time Jordan would’ve worn the jersey was in the1994 Spring Training and in one exhibition game at Wrigley Field. Same kind of vibes as a Tim Tebow Mets jersey.

But here at the Jersey Blog, we’re about sweet jerseys first and foremost. And this is a sweet jersey. The greatest basketball player of all-time attempting to play another professional sport is awesome trivia and just makes for some all-time pictures. Honestly, check this out:

Doesn’t seem real. Could you imagine Wayne Gretzky in in full pads for the LA Rams?

Jersey of the Week
Deion Sanders Atlanta Falcons

Unbelievable jersey. Deion “Prime Time” Sanders is one of the best corner backs of all-time, one of the premier multi-sport athletes (only athlete to ever play in a Super Bowl and the MLB World Series) and is flat out one of the most entertaining athletes ever. While the Michael Jordan baseball jersey is cool, some people would point out that Deion actually made the MLB.

Deion was one of the most electrifying athlete in a time where end zone celebrations were taboo and bat flips simply weren’t really a thing. The Falcons jersey is awesome and I think a Deion jersey ranks no matter if it’s a Cowboys or FSU jersey or even an Atlanta Braves or Yankees jersey.

Jersey of the Week Standings

Shlok came in hot with his first submission to the blog getting him to the top of the podium. Adam rebounds from one of the most controversial weeks of we’ve seen to get back on the podium for a record ninth time. Also, for those wondering, this is Adam’s first non-hockey submission in 10 weeks of the blog.

Jersey News Round-Up

Sign me up for the sequel.

These Under Armour Jerseys look horrific. Thankfully Nike stepped in.

I’m a big fan of the Miami blue and black uniforms.

In case anyone was wondering about the latest MLS jersey trends.
